Wheat...The 30 to 40 cent retreat across the futures complex since the
first of the month has been reflected in west coast cash wheat prices, with
firming basis levels helping white wheat bids maintain some composure. The
recent moisture has the PNW winter wheat crop off to an exceptional start,
and export demand remains relatively light.
Crop Progress...The first official assessment of winter wheat conditions
shows the Pacific Northwest winter wheat crop off to the best start in six
years. The three-state winter wheat index places the crop 7% above average
and 10% better than a year ago. Good to excellent ratings for Idaho are up
16% from a year ago at 85%, Oregon is up 3 points at 63% with Washington up
21 points from a year ago at 86%.
Shipments...Weekly export inspections came in at 12.2 million bushels for
wheat last week, putting the year-to-date total at 759 million, which is 16%
ahead of a year ago. Hard red winter moved 4.6 million bushels, red spring
shipped 3.3 million and white wheat 1.7 million. West coast exporters loaded
out 4.1 million bushels of wheat, going to Indonesia and South Korea, along
with 19 million bushels of corn and nearly 10 million bushels of soybeans.
